COVID-19 Update: Traveling With Miles During The Coronavirus, We have increased safety measures and adapted services More information
Being on the airport with children doesn’t just add to the responsibility but stress as well. But with a little planning, you make the experience hassle-free. You may have made it to the airport with all your luggage and children with the help of a ride-sharing service, but the responsibility isn’t over. While navigating the airport, you as a parent need to be extra vigilant.
Don’t freak out, here are some tips that can make your experience comfortable and exciting even if kids are involved:
During your ride to the airport, tell your child about what it’s like be on the airplane. Give them insight on what to expect, how to prepare, how to care for themselves, and more.
Let them pick a backpack for the journey and the items they can carry inside the bag to make the plane ride comfortable. This will make them feel included. For instance, make them pack glow sticks to feel comfortable during the dark airplane journey. It will also help you find items under the seat later on.
Travel clothes need to be comfortable. But that’s not it. You must choose bold color schemes so that you can quickly locate your kids in case they wander off. Also, dark outfits hide stains. You won’t have to worry about changing their clothes every time they spill a drink.
Always choose seats closer to the restroom. Before the plane takes off, make sure you take your kids to the restroom even if they say they don’t want to go. If your kid wears a diaper, make sure the bathroom has a changing table. Don’t forget to carry lots of cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer.
Use this travel as an opportunity to introduce new responsibilities to your kid. Make copies of boarding passes and give one to your kid to keep it safe just in case. If you have older kids, ask them to figure out the game number. When kids are made a part of the traveling experience, they behave better and feel less bored. Also, you are preparing independent travelers for the future.
When giving video devices to your children, make sure you ask them to use earphones. This is a courtesy to other travelers. This will also keep your child relaxes and keep away from the noise of the airport. And if you have two kids who will be watching the same show, buy headphone splitters so that both of them can listen and not fight.
If your child can walk, they will have to pass through the security devices themselves. Children who required a stroller are not removed. It is best to prepare your child for this procedure before arriving at the airport.
With these tips, navigating the airport will become less troubling.
