COVID-19 Update: Traveling With Miles During The Coronavirus, We have increased safety measures and adapted services More information
Millions of Americans are still under the stay at home orders to flatten the curve of spreading coronavirus. However, some people still need to commute to run errands, go grocery shopping, visit the hospital, or reach the workplace.
In some states, the work from home orders are lifting and businesses are opening. That means you are likely to return to ridesharing if not using the public transit immediately. The safety of you and your family lies in your hands.
Wearing facemask and gloves is part of the protocol now but there’s more you can do to protect yourself and stay while using ridesharing services. Follow our guide to find out how.
You must know it’s important to wear a facemask already. There is no harm in receiving a reminder. It’s ok not to cover your face when you are alone but when it gets crowded, wearing a facemask is mandatory.
Note that a facemask or cover is not recommended for:
To stay safe, carry sanitizing wipes, and disinfect the handle and seat before touching or sitting. Stay in one place throughout your journey in the vehicle to minimize the amount of contact with others. This will keep you safe and offer peace of mind throughout the commute.
Avoid Touching Surfaces
When your vehicle arrives and you take a seat, avoid contacting surfaces frequently touched by other passengers. These include door frames, handles, and windows.
Avoid accepting free water bottles. Don’t touch magazines or any other items provided for the passenger. If a touchless payment option is available, use it.
Don’t pool rides, to begin with. Don’t sit in the shotgun seat either. Take the back seat. If you are traveling with a child or another family member, sit apart or distance according to the space available.
Ask the driver to improve the ventilation of the vehicle by turning on the air ventilation. If possible, open the windows.
While you are still out in the public or even sitting in the transport, avoid touching your face. The Coronavirus can live on a surface for hours after it has been touched by an infected person. You can get infected if you touch eyes, nose, and mouth. Therefore, keep your hands off your face the whole time you are away from home.
After reaching your destination, sanitize your hands using a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
When you reach home, dispose of your mask and gloves. Before doing anything else, wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
If you work in an industry where you have to commute for work daily, choose a less busy route. It’s best not to be a part of crowded places.
Even if it’s a short trip, pack a hand sanitizer, an extra mask, gloves, and sanitizing wipes along. You never know when you will need them.
With these precautions, you will be able to keep safe during your commute and return home in complete peace of mind.
